Vabilo_EUTOPIA-SIF Fellows Seminar – 6 February, 13:00-14:30 CET

Dear Sir/Madam,

Within the framework of the EUTOPIA Science and Innovation Fellowship Programme, monthly fellow’s seminars will take place, in which the 40 researchers enrolled in the two cohorts will in turn present their research projects.

We are therefore delighted to invite you to the upcoming EUTOPIA-SIF Fellows Seminar, on Thursday 6 February, 13:00-14:30 CET.

The seminar will be held on Zoom: https://cyu-fr.zoom.us/j/92790060737?pwd=Qt4flc1wroPyjNo7Kj9GN1nt0IOMA9.1

Event Schedule:

13:00 – 13:05 Introduction
Cohort 4 (2024-2026)
13:05 – 13:25 Fellow Presentation
Speaker Ishutesh Jain (University of Warwick)
Project Title Non-Equilibrium Dynamics of the Cytoskeleton in Cell Division
Abstract Biological systems operate far from equilibrium, harnessing energy to drive self-organization and structure formation. While this non-equilibrium nature is recognized, how cells utilize these processes remains poorly understood due to experimental limitations. I am interested in uncovering these mechanisms, focusing on how cytoskeletal systems—actin filaments and microtubules—exploit energy dissipation to drive diverse functions. In my current project, I am developing an assay to measure forces produced by the cytokinetic ring—a transient contractile structure of actin filaments, myosin motors, and 200+ auxiliary components. This assay will help reveal how the ring’s non-equilibrium dynamics coordinate thousands of components to generate directed forces essential for cell division.
13:25 – 13:35 Q&A
13:35 – 13:55 Fellow Presentation
Speaker Temiloluwa Timothy Adejumo (Vrije Universiteit Brussel)
Project Title Hydrogen: Powering a sustainable future with clean energy innovations
Abstract Hydrogen is a promising clean energy alternative, but challenges such as achieving high yields, addressing energy density concerns, and ensuring safety under high pressure or cryogenic storage, persist. Liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) help address these issues by enabling efficient hydrogen storage and release through catalytic processes. Moreover, hydrogen yield can be optimized based on specific LOHCs-catalyst combinations. Our research focuses on developing and characterizing novel rhenium and ruthenium hydrazone complexes as catalysts for hydrogen production from LOHCs, complemented by advanced computational studies to identify the most effective metal complexes for this application.
13:55 – 14:05 Q&A
Cohort 3 (2023-2025)
14:05 – 14:15 Fellow Presentation
Speaker Mantra Mukim (CY Cergy Paris University)
Project Title Glitchwork: Bhanu Kapil and the Circuitry of the Book
Abstract If glitch is a breakdown of the machine from within, through an unanticipated yet internal error, this creative-critical presentation will trace the relationship between glitch and book. Focusing specifically on Bhanu Kapil’s Ban en Banlieue and Schizophrene, I intend to explore how the glitch is staged, received, repaired, and ultimately resigned to ‘the book’ in Kapil’s work. Here, the book is understood both in its organic and mechanical qualities. On the one hand, it is a living entity, prone to erosion and regeneration, as evidenced in Schizophrene, where the process of decay and renewal is integral to its form and meaning. On the other hand, the book has a composite quality, a structure built through minute acts of aggregation and redaction. This duality of the book—at once organic and mechanical—creates a fertile ground for examining the ways glitches manifest within it, both as disruptions and as creative possibilities.
