Vabilo_ EUTOPIA-SIF Monthly Fellow Seminar, Thursday 30th May 2024

Dear colleagues,

Please find here the EUTOPIA-SIF 2023-24 Seminar Invitation 30-May.docx the invitation to the to the EUTOPIA-SIF Monthly Fellow Seminar, which will take place on Thursday 30th May 2024, 13:00-14:30 CET and which you are all very welcome to attend.

The seminar will be held on Zoom : https://cyu-fr.zoom.us/j/98471347838?pwd=SEw0aUhQQmp5OGpoT3BvWnhsSTdEUT09

Event Schedule:

13:00 – 13:05  Introduction
Cohort 2 (2022-2024)
13:05 – 13:15  Fellow Presentation
Speaker Koteshwar Devulapally (CY Cergy Paris Université)
Project Title Photovoltaics: Innovations and Applications
Abstract The presentation will cover the fundamental concepts of various energy sources and their applications in modern technologies. We shall investigate several stages of photovoltaic technology. Photovoltaic systems employ organic semiconductors to turn sunlight into electricity. Organic compounds have gained popularity in recent years due to their potential use in solar applications. These molecules are ideal for new solar technologies since they are inexpensive, lightweight, and flexible. Perovskite solar cell technology, noted for its low production costs and efficient power conversion, is one of the most advanced and exciting developments in the field of photovoltaics.
13:15 – 13:20  Q&A

Cohort 3 (2023-2025)
13:20 – 13:40  Fellow Presentation
Speaker Boris Karatsolis (Vrije Universiteit Brussel)
Project Title North Atlantic phytoplankton paleoproductivity in a warm world
Abstract Phytoplankton forms the basis of life in the ocean, drives chemical cycles and has the power to produce vast amounts of oxygen while removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Geological records can provide information regarding past fluctuations and abrupt changes in phytoplankton primary production (marine productivity), with marine sediments being the most continuous and high-resolution records that can help us illuminate its history. This project investigates marine paleoproductivity in the North Atlantic during a warmer-than-present period of Earth’s history (~6-4 million years ago), by analyzing sediments recovered during International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 395.
13:40 – 13:45  Q&A
13:45 – 14:05   Fellow Presentation
Speaker Carla Tomazini (University of Warwick)
Project Title Welfare States, Neoconservative Trajectories, and Transnational Advocacy Coalitions: The Example of Education Policies on Gender Equality in Latin America
Abstract As the backlash against gender politics gains momentum, there is an increasing trend of collaboration and transnational activism among anti-gender actors from different nations. This project aims to explore the political dimensions of anti-gender mobilizations and their impact on policy-making processes and public education systems in Latin American countries. This research also proposes a comparative analysis of hindrances encountered during educational reforms and the suppression of gender education policies in Brazil, Costa Rica, and Peru. The central research question is: How do conservative mobilizations targeting gender education challenge the prevailing Welfare State paradigm?
