Posredujemo vam vabilo na mesečni seminar izbranih EUTOPIA-SIF raziskovalcev, ki bo potekal v četrtek, 22. februarja 2024 ob 13.00 na ZOOM-u (povezava: https://cyu-fr.zoom.us/j/98471347838?pwd=SEw0aUhQQmp5OGpoT3BvWnhsSTdEUT09). Spremljanje vsebine seminarja omogoča dober vpogled v mednarodne raziskovalne aktivnosti, ki potekajo pod okriljem zveze EUTOPIA. Spodaj izvolite program tokratnega dogodka pri katerem bosta sodelovala 2 SIF raziskovalca iz Univerze v Ljubljani.

| Project Title | The Day After a Broken Democratic Polity Dismantling Autocratic Legalism | ||
| Abstract | Lon Fuller’s fictional Purple Shirts regime, Victor Orbán’s illiberal democracy in contemporary Hungary and the recently ended unconstitutional Republic of Poland of the Kaczynski brothers are three examples of a ‘broken democratic polity’ that I discuss in this article. In particular, I address the question of whether illegal state action is an appropriate means of restoring legitimacy to what I call a ‘broken’ democratic polity. Is it morally defensible for a new democratically elected government to override and replace the rules of illiberal constitutional reform in violation of formal legality? If so, under what conditions? I argue that a positive answer to this question is justified, however it raises another question: Can state officials engage in acts of civil disobedience? To answer this question, I argue that rule departures are justified under certain circumstances. I also argue that the involvement of state officials in civil disobedience actions leads us to a practical tool to remove autocratic legalism: destituent power. | ||

Through simple illustrations, we’ll elucidate its transformative impact on quantum computing, quantum communication, and cryptography. As we chart this course, we’ll also explore entanglement’s potential applications in emerging fields, such as quantum magnets, paving new frontiers in quantum science. | ||

| Project Title | Microbial interactions in water kefir: the case of bifidobacteria | ||
| Abstract | Water kefir is a fermented drink and a healthier alternative to overly sweet soft drinks. It is made by fermenting sugary water with dried fruits using water kefir grains, which contain a stable community of different microorganisms, including yeasts, lactic acid bacteria, and sometimes bifidobacteria. While interactions between the former two have been explored before, little is known about the interaction of bifidobacteria with yeasts and lactic acid bacteria in water kefir. This project will fill this knowledge gap and make steps in the customisation of water kefir grain microbial composition, enabling us to ensure the presence of desired microorganisms. | ||
