Summer School: Innovative Early English Language Teaching

Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, organizes Summer School for teachers of English at early stages titled: »Innovative Early English Language Teaching«.

The Summer School will be held from 20th to 24th August 2018 at the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana between 9:00 and 15:30 (7 pedagogical hours per day, a total of 35 hours).

The summer school is intended primarily for teachers of elementary education with English, students teaching English at early stages, and for all those who want to improve in the field of early English teaching.

The Summer School will be held in English. It will be led by recognized experts in the field of early foreign language teaching, Tom Majer and Mateja Todorovski.

A detailed program is attached.

Tom Majer, a Slovenian-Canadian, who has taught in Slovenia for 12 years, has worked in schools on 4 continents. He is a practitioner trained in both classical and alternative methods as well as mother tongue and foreign language acquisition. Tom continues to do professional development seminars and workshops for language teachers and schools, works with student teachers and practices CLIL. He is a Waldorf trained pedagog who intertwines elements of Montessori, Wambach, Kodály, and Dalcroze teaching approaches. He enjoys the challenges of teaching in a text book-free environment, thematic-based, and cross-curricular/integrated programs. He has published materials for second language learning and created a unique webpage for learning languages.

Mateja Todorovski began developing the didactics of early English teaching in 2002 as a teacher at a primary school. With her experience as a professional member, she contributed to the preparation of the curricula for foreign languages in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. She shared examples of good practice together with other Slovenian teachers at a number of seminars, and was later involved in the deployment and observation of foreign languages in the 2nd and 3rd grade as a consultant at the National Education Institute Slovenia. She has plenty of experience with the preparation of materials, since she has been cooperating with one of the Slovenian publishers for many years. Today, as an assistant in the field of didactics, she transfers the examples of good practice also on students.
